BC and Risk in an African School

We get requests for help from members from time to time – this is one of the more unusual requests and certainly worthwhile your reading.

Will Allan is a BCI member who is currently in Tanzania doing volunteer work for a year, at the School of St Jude.  You may have heard of the work of Gemma Rice (now Sisia), from a sheep farm in Australia who established the School in 2002.  You can read about the School at www.schoolofstjude.co.tz

The School is a combined primary-secondary school of about 1300 students and 300 staff, funded completely by donors and sponsors.  The main part of Will’s brief is to develop the school's governance and management arrangements.  As part of this project, he intends to introduce risk management and business continuity management into the school's management culture and regime.

Will is hoping to get in touch with any BCI members with experience of risk management/BCM in an education setting, preferably school level, or in aid projects in developing countries.  The sort of assistance he is looking for is advice on how to structure the BCM program, any useful templates etc that you can supply.  In addition, can you suggest any web-based resources to Will that might be relevant?

Will can be contacted on william.a@schoolofstjude.co.tz.  Any advice you can provide or suggest will be warmly welcomed by Will and his colleagues.

We wish Will every success with his work, and look forward to hearing his stories at one of our BCI events when he returns.
